BMSE Surveyors – British Marine Surveyors Europe

British Marine Surveyors Europe (BMSE)

A network of professional yacht and small craft surveyors

About Us

As part of a surveyors continual professional development, as a BMSE member, we share experiences and what we find when surveying so if a member has not surveyed a certain model of yacht he has a pool of information. very few organisations do this.
BMSE is a specialist group of surveyors looking to raise standards in the surveying industry. There are BMSE surveyors in many countries and they have extensive marine industry backgrounds ranging from boatbuilders and brokers to superyacht captains and may also have other formal qualifications. In addition all BMSE members hold the world renown IBTC qualification in yacht and small craft surveying gained only after passing an intensive practical course. BMSE surveyors carry out a thorough series of inspections and tests and provide comprehensive reports written in clear and understandable English. Whilst all members work to a common standard, each member will offer different services and specialities. BMSE surveyors have a forum to exchange information, thereby allowing each surveyor to draw on the specialist expertise of others and regularly discuss new technology, emerging trends, and industry issues and to discuss any individual vessel’s defects. BMSE surveyors undergo continuing professional development and have their survey reports peer group assessed on a regular (3 years minimum) basis which allows for continual high standard surveys. All BMSE Members hold Professional Indemnity Insurance.

Our emphasis is to provide comprehensive reports written in clear and understandable English. We carry out a thorough series of inspections and tests and we describe the results as found. While all members work to a similar format and standard, each member will offer different services and specialties.

BMSE was formed to allow an exchange of information between surveyors, thereby allowing each surveyor to draw on the specialist expertise of others. Members communicate on a forum daily discussing new technology, emerging trends, and industry issues as well as individual vessel’s defects. See more information on our Knowledge Pool page.
