Solent & Surrounding areas but…
I am happy to do yacht and small craft surveys and MCA coding anywhere in the UK, Europe or the world. Within approximately 60 miles / 1.5 hours of Emsworth travel expenses are free. This covers the south coast from Eastbourne to Poole and up to the River Thames around Oxford and Reading.
My home base is Emsworth, a lovely fishing village located on the South Coast and part of the Chichester harbour area. Surveys are carried out here in Emsworth Marina, which is known as Emsworth Yacht Harbour. They have 220 berths and hard standing for 200 yachts. The onsite broker Jerry Hills runs Slipway Marine and always has a large selection of yachts for sale. Many fishing boats operate from Emsworth and surveys can be carried out on these at low tide off the hard.
Around Thorney Island, also in Chichester Harbour is Thornham Marina, a lovely yard with friendly staff and good hard standing and travel lift making surveys at Thornham Marina a pleasure to carry out.
In Langstone Harbour is Northney Marina. A sheltered harbour with a travel lift and hard standing. The Yacht brokers here are Windward Yachting Brokerage run by Tim Barker and Hayling Island Boatshed run by Ross Farncombe.
Sparkes Marina, also owned by Marina Developments Limited, MDL is on the southeast tip of Hayling Island is a favourite surveyors site with on site restaurant Jaks.
I do a lot of surveys in the Hamble river, recently surveying a Moody 31 in The Elephant Boat yard. Deacons Marina. Swanwick Marina, head quarters of Premier Marinas is a 300 berth marina, very clean hard standing area. Mercury Yacht harbour, on Southampton Water, owned by MDL, has brokerage run by Alex Legge. Port Hamble, Head Quarters of Ancasta International Boat Sales with Head Broker Rhian Sewell selling brokerage boats and new Beneteaus and Prestige Yachts. This is also home to Hamble Yacht Services, an excellent repair facility.
Hamble Point Marina is at the far end of Hamble village where the river meets Southampton Water and is home to numerous Yacht Brokers and repair facilities. I have surveyed Jeanneau yachts here for Seaventures.
Portsmouth Harbour and Fareham Creek are within 20 minutes of my home and I carry out surveys in Port Solent Marina, where Sunsail are based. Gosport and Fareham as well as the hard in Portsmouth where many RIBS are kept. The old Vosper Thorney Craft facility in Porchester has recently been given a new lease of life renamed Trafalgar Wharf with many yacht and RIB related businesses moving here.
I also survey in Newhaven, Brighton, Shoreham, Littlehampton, Selsey, Beaulieu River, Lymington, Keyhaven. Poole, Bournemouth with no travel expenses.
Being close to both Southampton and Gatwick and having worked abroad we have surveyed in Asia including Thailand, Johar and Singapore, Carribean Islands of Martinique, St. Martin, BVIs and Antigua and have net work of contacts around the world and can organise valuations, damage inspections and surveys in most areas either going ourselves or instructing locally.

“Matt provided an excellent survey service when I was buying my first boat – always a nerve-wracking experience! He was very flexible with timings, arrived promptly and conducted a very thorough inspection, taking time to explain key points to me and offer general boating advice. The report came through very quickly and was comprehensive, clear and made sensible recommendations. I would fully recommend Matt. ” Nick Bournemouth, Review Jan 2016
We purchased our Dufour 36 from ‘Ancasta’ Chichester last April, and they recommended using Matt for our survey. We were travelling from Cardiff , and Matt was extremely helpful and easy to deal with. I attended for part of the survey, and he took time to talk me over the yacht andgave me a very detailed verbal description on the day. This was followed up naturally by a more detailed written report . Everything was dealt with very promptly , Matt was easy to contact throughout the process , and I would highly recommend his services .
